On November 6th 2000, CRS Records/Epic released TOGETHER IN CONCERT: LIVE, the album, in New Zealand. This album contains 15 tracks, recorded on the landmark tour.

In August of 2000, Tim Finn, Bic Runga and Dave Dobbyn took to the road to share the stage as a trio for the first time, in a nationwide tour of New Zealand. It was one of the most successful tours the country has ever witnessed – a national sell out of 26 shows with a total audience of over 30,000 people.

The tour saw the three leading New Zealand singer/songwriters on stage together at all times. They performed together and alone, acoustic and electric with and without a band – playing their own and each other's songs. All three performers are household names in New Zealand, their songs part of the musical landscape.

Dave Dobbyn speaks for all three when he describes the excitement and romance of the tour. "Loved it! Every gig connected. We make a great team. Thank you all for some amazing shows - that goes for people up and down NZ. To be at your best, you must abandon yourself to the moment and commit your heart to what happens beyond the players and the audience - beyond the sum of the parts there's the soul of it all. There was a lot in those 26 rooms. You don't forget that ever. We rocked!"

Tim Finn adds; "We had the time of our lives. Thanks for believing in YOUR music. Never forget that the song lives on. One of the cornerstones of my personal mythology is that, at its best, a live performance is more intense than any Record, Book or Film. There are no gatekeepers between the performer and the audience, no radio programmers, no marketing plans... pure and sacred the encounter... we had a love affair with the NZ people for 30 days and I will never forget it."

Selected shows were recorded from around the country. Malcolm Welsford then mixed the best recording of each track at his studio in Kare Kare, with the assistance of the artists. There were no "overdubs", meaning that what you hear on the record, was what was performed at the shows - entirely.

There are 5 tracks from each of the artists - from a songwriting perspective - even though all three of the artists are involved on most of the tracks. The intention was to deliver a record which not only provided the big hits from each of their catalogues, but to also include new works from each of them.

The tracks were also selected with a view to maintaining the "feel" of the live shows -the high-energy points, the quiet reflective points, the crowd favourites and the "crowd involvement" songs. We wanted people to listen to the record and remember exactly what it was like to be there - and for those that weren't there too.
